Interpretation of Faustian myth. Based on fragments of Geothe´s and Marlowe´s play, recycled and renewed.

     In our show, the well known fabula remains the same, framed by the student´s Christmas Eve party. They decide   to retell the story of Faust to amuse themselves. Among them, one will be chosen for the role of Faust. The others become a playfull, yet cynical crew of Mefisto. During the show, we switch between the layer of the party and replaying the chapters of Faust´s story. Members of Mefisto´s crew, one by one, switch to the roles of different characters of the story until they make their poor friend slowly melt in between his real self and his Faustian role. But is our Faust really helpless ? He´s an theatre student. He knows very well what to anticipate from accepting his role. He´s not really guided by the play, nor by Mefisto. His guided by his own free will, right to the end.

     The show tries to bring the myth with authentic view of young artists. As a final project of our Art studies it naturally reflects the topics of ambitions, the desire of succes and fame and the worth which is needed to be paid for achieving them. It sees Faust as human beying with freedom of his own will, pointing out that that there is always a space to make the decisions. 

     In this performance i tried to create a space for the framing story of the show- modern, minimalistic, and cold interior where the party would be held. For the parts where we dive directly to the Faust´s story, the elements of the set are changed and used differently to create other, magical enviroments in different scales.

     The main inspiration for objects and puppets in this show was the bust. Bust a s symbol of egocentrism and narcisisms but also as material object evoking contemplation about oneself. In our performance the bust of Faust is given as a gift from Mefisto after signing the contract. It remains on a pedestal during all the show. For each folowing chapter i designed a variation of a bust trying to layer methaphorical meanings and also practical functions needed for the action required in the storyline. The puppets are also evooking realistic sculptures.
